I have a postage stamp back yard and cannot grow any grass- help!

You could plant creeping thyme. It is really pretty when it blooms and you never have to mow it.

If you have pets, you probably won't be able to have grass...I don't know but I think artificial grass might hold strong odors!

Be sure and put out lime to knock down odors and keep it cleaner! Remember, pets track germs in out of that yard.

I would put down some straw or mulch because no plants will survive in a small area with concentrated pet urine. Some large rocks and yard art will dress it up.

Put in a few stepping stones so you won't have to walk out in the urine area.

If you want an area for your use, you will have to put a barrier up so the pets cannot get into that area uninvited.

I thought I hated artificial grass but in Arizona it’s foolish to waste water for lawn. I had a very small area that was dirt at the front patio and I thought for a year what to do with it. And I do have a Lab that would walk out front with me now and then and “use” the area. In Sam’s one day they had rolls of artificial grass that was nice quality and pretty realistic in color and it even has “dead” grass peeking up from base. I laid it down with intermittent 12x12 pavers, placed a birdbath and potted geraniums in groups and at different levels. I’m very happy with it.

I came on here to suggest ground cover - like creeping thyme - but read what another said about fake grass. A few months ago, I was sitting on a wall admiring a lawn. I reached down and ran my hand through it. Amazing grass, I thought. Then i was told it was fake grass. My fingers were in it and I didn't know! So I'm suggesting either a ground cover or fake grass. Add some containers of flowers and you're good to go.
