try rhododendrons, and there are a ton of other bushes and plants that love the shade and soil conditions you just described.
Why not try something other then plants? Water fountains, bird baths, etc.
Hostas are great, and so are ferns. I have bleeding hearts in the shade and they are beautiful when they bloom.
Try hibiscus, the kind that do not need to be replanted. They are perennials. They will grow on the east, west and southsides. After they are done blooming, sometimes if there is enough growing time ,trim all old flower pods down and they will bloom again. But in doing so,they will not produce the seed pod enough so they will not spread. After heavy frost trim down to 4-5 inches. Some will change in colors, that weren’t there before. I have them all over and get many compliments, every year. It might take 2-3 years before the seeds take roots.
Plant naturalizing flower bulbs.. spring color! I have squill... can use most spring-flowering bulbs, as the leaves will fill the oak later.
Just stay away from English Ivy. It will take over and spread. We have been fighting some the neighbors put in year ago. It was spread over 2 city lots, up trees and even chocked out several shrubs.
