I would like to do a completely evergreen garden bed, without using boring boxwoods. My style is Southwestern, even though I live in Kentucky.

One amazing evergreen that looks excellent in landscaping is the Alberta Spruce. I'm not particularly sure what southwestern style entails plant-wise, but I think this tree would fit in anywhere!

There are many low-growing shrubs on the market, arborvitae's have many different forms that are lovely. I prefer those whose color is mixed with yellow, check to see what anticipated height plants are to reach, then prune them to the size you need.
There are many dwarf varieties you should loook into. Check with a good local nursery.
