Interior painting and landscaping

We want to sell our house, but we do not know what colors we should paint inside or what shouldn't or should be part of the landscaping of the yard.

light neutral color is always best. I would paint all of the walls the same color. Cheaper and will make the rooms look bigger as there is no brake from room to room. Landscape...would need pictures to help.

Personally I would speak to your realtor for advice on the painting and curb appeal.

  We have talked to several realtors and all they would say, was it depends on the market at the time we do sale, and what type of buyers we are trying to aim for. As for the curb appeal, they said, that it's iffy that the young want the least to care for and the older likes a well landscaped yard, so we're caught in the middle on what to aim for.

  I would then keep it basic with your color scheme as everyone has different ideas and color desires. As for the curb appeal I would just add seasonal color within your landscape to dress it up a bit.If you post a picture I then can give you some focal point ideas as well as ideas for plantings.

I find Magnolia is a refreshing and clean look. Plus the buyer can visualise the look better with a lighter back ground.

A light neutral--it depends on the flooring too, I would say gray is a popular choice now, but if you have a color that is really an orangey wood color, then a more warm color might be better. I agree one paint color throughout, thought that's not what I want to live with, that's what it seems like buyers are looking for, sometihng like a "blank slate" to visualize their belongings. Fresh and clean new paint is good!

I have been a realtor for 28 yrs as well as an investor who flips houses. Navajo beige walls/white trim, doors & ceilings. It's a clean look and the white makes it pop. As far as landscape, I would need to see a picture of the front of your house. But, w/o seeing it, I would say to make sure that you have the beds cut in and mulched, everything trimmed below the windows (if up against the house) and just make sure it looks neat and manicured (no weeds!).

  Some realtors here have told us to get rid of a lot of our hedges and plants, and some have stated everything is fine, and again, they said it depends on the type of people we're trying to attract. So it's like, which way do we go? Some realtors have said to go with, nice clean bright colors, and some have said, the more plain laid back look the better, like, beiges, light grays, and and cream colors of yellow, and green, so again, which way do we go. We live in South Carolina.

  If you go with colors, you will turn off the people who don't like those colors and, some colors can make a room look smaller or, in some cases, claustrophobic. If you go with neutral, people who like color will be able to envision what they can do. Plus painting with colors may detract a buyer from seeing the actual layout as they may be focusing more on a color. It's more important to open up the space (if rooms are crowded, put some furniture in storage, display minimal knickknacks & put away photos. Most importantly, clean out closets if they are crammed, etc. It's more important to make your place look very spacious/roomy. The idea of putting away photos is so that buyers have nothing detracting them (yes, they do stop and look at the photos and start making judgements). In short, most people in the market today are more "minimalists" and "green", not to mention "Zen". Open & airy sells easiest in today's market. As far as your landscape, whatever you have, minimize it, clean it up, etc. People don't want to think they have to weed everyday, so you don't want anything there that suggests that might happen. Those who want gardens and lots of landscape can add it and don't mind doing so because they can put in what they want. Those who don't want the landscape will be happy there isn't any to deal with. But, at the same time, you don't want the curb appeal to look bare. Can you upload a picture?

Denise, as an Interior Designer and an individual who has bought and sold houses across this country, I agree completely with Francesca's comments about using neutrals to paint the interior of the house. With neutrals, the home looks fresh, clean and bright. A neutral color is NOT white, but ecru or a soft (never dark and saturated) grey. Grey is considered the new neutral but you have to be careful to choose one that is towards the warm tones. And a pure white causes glare. As far as the exterior is concerned, all shrubbery should be pruned neatly, weeded underneath, and next to the front door should be a beautifully planted container. Think which colors would most enhance the color of your house and front door. Best of luck!

Painting a white that way if they want to change it not that hard for them to do we're about my home it was white that way I could paint the room any color I want
