Is there a such thing as a "Gardening" Party?

I know people throw garden parties in their yards showing off flowers and such. My yard isn't quite there yet. My idea is to have just a few willing friends over to do a little gardening and enjoy a light lunch and drinks. Is this a thing? Any ideas?

I think this is an excellent Idea. I would serve homemade cream puffs and a salad. for the meal. and let your friends help you in the yard. and It would be very nice to play games and give out little prizes, you can get them at a dollar store. and put them in a gift bag. and serve some Ice tea. or Drinks.

Hi Elisa, Sure could be a thing! Maybe if your friends have gardens, they could do the same and you all could rotate once a month or so, exchanging ideas and flowers etc... Maybe for your first "Gardening Party" you could make up baskets with gloves, seeds and gardening tools as gifts for your guests helping you! Sounds like fun! :)

Field trips sound great! And, You all could go to your local botanical garden. Sunflowers would be perfect for this time of year! Here's a link to more late season flowers: http://usinggeorgianativeplants.blogspot.com/2014/09/late-season-native-flowers.html

Let me know how it goes! I think it's a great idea. :)

Would you go to a friend's house to help paint, clean, or garden? I would! As long as you are honest and tell friends to bring gardening shoes and clothes and when the food will be served, that's super. I would plan exactly what needs to be done, have the tools and materials on hand, and plan on several areas in your house for wash-up and toilets. And have sweet and unsweetened beverages and fix-ahead salads and sandwiches ready to eat. And take a group picture when you break for lunch! Best wishes 😇

Thanks for the specifics! ;-). We could rotate yards. Two of the ladies I have in mind are neighbors; one other lives a good distance.

  • I think it is a fantastic idea - you could start a new trend. I would certainly go . . .

Sounds like a great idea. Have a BBQ and ask people to bring divisions from their favorite plant to help establish your own flower bed with. It would create a true 'memory garden'.

That sounds like a lot of fun! It's not a thing, it should be 😉

It certainly is a thing if you have friends that will participate! Have everyone bring cuttings to share. Sounds great!

If people can have barn parties and paint parties, I don't see why not ! Make sure everyone knows to dress appropriately and have plenty of cool refreshing drinks available .

Sun-brewed tea with mint sprigs is my specialty...along with water, of course.

What a great idea. The food is not as important as sharing time with family and friends. I do like the idea of sharing "starts" from everyone's gardens. It would probably be better in the spring if you share. Great idea. You could go to each other's houses so all the work is not on one person all the time. If I was invited to something like this, I would go for sure.

Hi Elisa, You are so blessed to have those stories about your Grandmother. Be sure to pass those on to the younger ones in your family. They are priceless. Thank you for sharing one of your memories with me. I feel blessed now too. Happy gardening.

I did this when I moved house and a couple of friends have done the same. Get a BBQ going or other food. First house would have taken weeks for me to do it myself. Makes for a fun and productive day.
