Maples are my favorite - different varieties turn different colors in autumn, from yellow to red to orange - beautiful!
I like Maples too! Also Crepe Myrtles.
Thats depends on how large of a area there is to plant,as maples are beautiful but they also have a very large root system
You need to measure your yard in order to decide what type of tree you need. I'm assuming you don't want an evergreen. ALWAYS select trees by their mature size. That will give you some idea of the root system and shade they'll provide. (Heavy shade will kill most grass.) Then, you will want to rule out any maintenance problems. Crepe Myrtles are messy -- some others are prone to disease or insect problems. If you don't mind the wait for them to provide a lot of shade, or have the budget for a larger tree, I'd go with Live Oak or Red Maple.
