Cover the seed with lose hay

Hay works. Later after grass roots are strong, I had to rake off the hay because of weeds

Get some bails of hay and hay the area. Once you have the hay down you need to water it.. This will keep the seed in place and the grass will start to grow. Keep it moist so the seed germinates.

Use straw, not hay. If you use hay, you will have clover and alfalfa growing with your seed. Straw is seedless remains of wheat stalks.
