If the pump doesn't recirculate the water you probably have a build up of algae. Even with the recirculating pumps you might have to put a plant safe algae treatment in the water periodically like pool owner do. I can't think of any reason the water would be green if algae isn't the problem.

Another thing that may be helpful are algae eating fish. The green color is because of algae...either in the pump or the water or both. the fish I mentioned, will help to get rid of the algae in the pond but you also need to clean the pump on a weekly schedule. between these 2 things, there will be very little if any, algae in the pond.

its called string algae - we got it in our pond every spring - at petsmart or other pet store that deals in fish - Tetra, Aqua and others are out there for algae blooms. make sure its used in FISH PONDS. lots of times we just pulled it out and threw in the trash or wooded area on other side of pond. eventually dies out when it starts getting hotter.

We use a product called AlgaeFix. It clears the problem right up... You will have this problem consistently if your pond receives a lot of direct sunlight. We have two 2,200gph pumps running but the algae battle is a biggie and we've found this to be the best and safest product for our pond. However, you may want to keep some of that algae around for little creatures to hide in for protection depending on the size of your pond.
