Issues with a fountain pump

Liz on Aug 07, 2016It sounds as if you need a more powerful pump.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Aug 07, 2016I agree- your pump is not large enough. The pump needs to push water up which means you need to find a pump to push the water up. Then there is another option- have you tried to turn the knobs on the pump to adjust the flow of water?Helpful Reply

Crystal Cochrane on Aug 07, 2016also depends on the size of the pump, some have a water flow adjuster on them. If your pump is equipped with it all you may need to do is turn it upHelpful Reply

Sue Kiene on Aug 07, 2016what they are saying is true, could be it is not a powerful enough or could need the water flow adjustedHelpful Reply

William on Aug 07, 2016Everyone is correct. Most pumps can be adjusted. Otherwise, you can reduce the tubing size and the pump will push the water quicker, but the life of the pump isn't guaranteed.Helpful Reply

Sharon Walker Hoefing on Aug 07, 2016Does your tubing have a kink some where might check that. Also smaller tubing will give you more pressureHelpful Reply

Nancy Flemming on Aug 07, 2016In addition to the other comments. Where is it getting its water from? garden hose, pond? If in a pond intake may be too close to the bottom. Also take the nozzle off and see if it makes a difference, some are designed to just dribble.Helpful Reply

Kat9597376 on Aug 07, 2016It only has a reservoir under the tower that I fill every couple of days. I am SO DISAPPOINTED!Helpful Reply

Jennie Lee on Aug 07, 2016Pumps usually tell, on their packaging, how high they can push the water up, in inches. If you have adjusted the pump to maximum force, and it won't pump it as high as is claimed, I'd say you have a truly valid reason to return what you bought for a refund. I hope you get treated fairly.Helpful Reply

Steve on Aug 07, 2016you definitely need a bigger pump, say around 330 gal per hour , don't put a smaller tubing than the outlet of the pump is as you will cut down on the volume of water.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Aug 07, 2016Okay I see a problem here- there should be no gap between the walls of the fountain and the clear hose. It should fit snug so no water goes back down in the reservoir - this could be your problem? I would seal up around the hose at the top of the fountain so no water can run back down inside and then try the pump.Helpful Reply

Kat9597376 on Aug 07, 2016I'm going to try to determine how much this pump circulated an hour. I thought the first pump was faulty...it came new with the fountain, so I replaced it, obviously that wasn't the problem. I will also check for a kink or bend in the tube!Helpful Reply

AnnieinBonitasprings on Aug 08, 2016I was going to suggest to look for kinked hose. That was the reason someone threw out a cool fountain so we replaced and ta-da works like a dream!Helpful Reply

Chuck on Aug 08, 2016I had a similar issue when I purchased my fountain, the pump only stated it the water height would be up to 24". I had to get a larger pump where the water height was 42". check the package label it will tell you how much flow and the height the water will go.Helpful Reply

J Neal on Aug 08, 2016Check the pump. Most have a flow regulator (either dial or lever). Yours may be set on the lowest flow.Helpful Reply

Vicki McDonald on Aug 09, 2016If the tubing is smaller than the opening at the top, it may help to fill in the space with caulk. I did this on my fountain and it helped keep the water from flowing back down inside instead of pumping out. Hope that makes sense.Helpful Reply

Kat9597376 on Aug 10, 2016Thank you perhaps that is my issue, the first pump came with the fountain and I didn't know enough about pumps to even look on the second. Novice here!Helpful Reply

Sue Kiene on Aug 10, 2016None of us probably did before we either got one or researched before getting our first one. I know I did not. One of these days I will have my first pond or fountain, mine is used for irrigating with free water from our ground water.Helpful Reply
