Terrace plans at a halt until I can decide on timber, block, or concret. To create the terrace walls. Any unique ideas?

I think blocks look best for a project like this one. You can get stones in varying sizes to give it more character.

I myself like ties, they last a long time, stay in place better and don't require maintenance until they rot after years. But that is my opinion, many people like using stone.

I think your best bet is to look at the steepness of the area & ask yourself how much pressure is going to be exerted against these/this wall & how well will it hold? If that isn't going to be an issue...then look at the overall picture of the area with each of the various types of structure & what you think would look best for the property's appearance. Textured blocks would definitely be an up-grade; a concrete wall would be durable & could have flagstone/slate pieces added to it's surface as an up-grade, if you wanted a more country setting...the timbers would be a good choice. Take all this into consideration as you approach your home from a 'street view'...what would look good?
