I love me some purple flowers so I say lavender, aster, and/or bee balm.
I would recommend staying with dwarf varieties of shrubs as the space appears to be narrow.Once you decide on your preference then add your color with annuals and perennials.
Thank you so much Janet - I will check out dwarf varieties and embellish with annuals.
Great suggestion - I thought a lilac bush in the far corner but keeping it pruned to keep it bountiful and compact
I am not a fan of shrubs, but perennials (purple cone flowers/lavender/poppies) do it for me!
lilies like sun.
Janet - thanks - as I said, we moved about 16 months ago and we pkanted 1 lilac bush at that house 29 years ago. When we moved - it had sprung up all along the side of the house. I will heed your advice although I'd love a lilac bush
Lavender rocks, or white rocks from landscaping company. But line it with black paper before. It will help with water from your gutters and downspouts.
Already have black paper down with plastic mulch - can't wait to start planting
vegetables!
I'd plant azaleas - there are many varieties and most now will bloom all summer long until frost. They're hardy and can go most anywhere. They will lose their leaves over winter. Dwarf hydrangeas would also look good long the back and you could intersperse annuals in between and in the front.
I love hostas, large ones, 3 would be good to go with your lilac bush when it matures. Pops of color with marigolds or geraniums could be added annually if you like them. Maybe a shepherd's hook with a hanging Boston Fern could also be added. I love to anchor spaces with large boulders, a bench or a bird bath. Maybe a water feature if you have access to electricity. I'd also border the area with stone to define it. Nice space. Best of luck.
