Arbor Vitae's will give the privacy you are looking for. They grow tall and slender. We have them all around the perimeter of our backyard. They make it feel very private. Best of luck to you.
I certainly understan wanting some privacy and I love plants as much as anyone does! But you should also be aware that climbing plants like ivy or even climbing roses can do some serious damage to your outside structure of your home. Those vines can and will work into the tiniest of cracks between siding on a home or even damage a brick wall on homes! You need to be very careful and watch your vine plants all the time that their not growing into the side of your house and getting into the space between your studs in your walls! Over time going unchecked these plants can do a lot of damage that will get deep into your pocket book fixing your home in future years! I admit the plants can look attractive on the side of many different homes. But when home owners learn what damage these plants have done to their home over the years and what it‘s going to cost to remove these vines and replace all the damage to the side of their home. These plants often loose their curb appeal to owners real fast when they learn the cost of fixing their home! So be fore warned! That plant beauty on your home can come to a high cost 10-15 years down the line! Don’t let your vines get out of control where their growing right into the side of your home! Just a word of caution to hopefully save you grief and money in the future! Plants really are amazing how destructive they can be! You’d not think a little vine could do so much damage! Unfortunately though, they really can grow into your home like you would never expect them to do! Don’t be afraid to ask questions to professionals on the damage these plants can do to your home before planting them too close to the side of your house? It’s never any fun learning the hard way, as many people often do!

if holly hocks grow in your area put them to good use. they grow tall and st. upwards. they make a nice screen. in days gone by in the age of out houses..if your were female, your out house would have the hollyhocks planted around it, so you would not embarrass yourself asking for the loo.
i have seen there is a variety of holly hocks called the outhouse holly hocks.
planted it too. very pretty.
i should also tell you..the hollyhocks have a tap root. grows down. not a spreading root structure. very foundation friendly.

A Privacy screen is a great idea for porches that need privacy and shade. It can be as simple as horizontal slats between your porch rails or more detailed with randomly placed flower boxes.
