Teeny Tiny Little Gnome Home & Garden!

Question

I'm in the process of making tiny gnome home and garden!
The garden is already there in an old top of a birdbath that is just on the ground at the place we rent in VT. I think I need to clean the garden up. But shall I add more moss? And I am thinking about making a teeny tiny twig bench...what do you think? Or any other suggestions for the garden? ALSO...this is what I have so far on the Gnome Home. What do you think. I was just going to make it out of wood, but then decided to go twig and now I think the front looks a bit odd. What do you think if I add twigs around the window and door? Or should I just cover the whole front with twigs. If I do that...how do I make a door and window? I have 37 days to finish it all for the cutest most adorable little twin gnome nieces ever that are going to visit!

You might leave it without a door, then a toad might move in. I like lots of moss in my fairy gardens but you can use low-growing ground covers too. I have clips about fairy gardens (here on Hometalk)

I would add a small amount of trim around the door and window....or maybe some rhinestones to make a sparkle!

I am making a fairy garden for my youngest grandaughters, and I think I will probably make a few more because it is so much fun! I hunt around a garage sales for little chachkas and the $ stores have wonderful little bags of pebbles and glass stones that would work. I love your idea of the bench, and you might also like the look of a little arbour or even a fence. I would do a little more with the front of the house. The idea of trim is a good one, but maybe something different than the twigs i.e. popsicle sticks or even grape fine which would be good for the door and an arbour. In terms of planting, moss looks wonderful to double for grass, and I have also incorporated some tiny sedum, hens and chickens, and some other drought resistant ground covers. I even found the tiniest little baby yew in my garden and it is now in with the fairies. Most importantly, have fun! Be careful though, you might get hooked like I did..

I would cover the entire front with twigs, leaving only the space for door and window. I also think you should cut out the door, but outline them both with twigs.

@My Gnome Little  World  I like your idea of the twig bench! Anything made out of small material! If you add moss you might find the stuff that is all dry already and has fallen out of trees (we get huge amounts out of our oak tree. 
 So is the gnone home a block of wood? I love the top part of it without the block of wood...would it stay together? I'd love to see you remove that block if you can and then (or if not) with twigs build in the window and the door part with twigs. Just use twine maybe to make the door attach so It opens and closes? I think making a twig frame for door and window then filling in with twigs would work good enough to complete the door and window. Then if the block in the middle is covered with twigs will look all right. 
 I agree there are pea gravels that are sooo cute! You might use something like that in place of the bigger stones....If you were to do that then you could make the bigger stones more like fences to a yard? 
 
 Another friend of mine just went looking through her house for thing she could add to her fairy garden that she could turn an old metal cup into a little play house etc. Looked around her yard found old odd little rocks that looked like things, and twigs that already looked like other things..

You can make fencing out of Popsicle sticks & don't forget some Fairy Dust (glitter). A gnome or two might also look neat. Some small silk flowers popped in here & there could add color. :)

I made a miniature scene a few years ago by using a 'barn' part of a nativity scene that I bought at a thrift store for 25 cents. I also found some of the itty bitty clay pots (quarter sized) at JoAnn's and set them around the barn with soil in them. The best part of my display was the miniature Hostas I found at many of the garden centers.

I have bought small birdhouses and then I turned them into Fairy Houses. You could put your sticks on the outside of the birdhouse. You can find the birdhouses in different sizes and shapes, I have painted and staged them with moss and flowers.

I love your fairy house. I think it would be cute to make the door out of twigs and then on the back side put on twig going from corner to corner. Tie the door to the house with some twine and leave the door open. You could make a twig table and put something tiny like a coke bottle cap and put glue in it and then some tiny artificial flowers in it for a vase. One or two twig chairs and you would have a cute scene inside the house. I like the idea of a bench. If you look around in a nursery or H.D. or Lowes you can find cute little plants that only grow 3 or 4 inches tall that could double as bushes or maybe a tree. It could easily be trimmed to keep the shape you want. There are ground covers that bloom and are very short that would add interest.

@KMS Woodworks your stuff is amazing! Not sure I would be able to put that much into a small fairy garden! Also wondering @My Gnome Little  World if you want this to last longer than one summer? My friend said she didn't expect hers to even make it beyond a month or so with her kids playing with it. I was thinking something that would last forever or at least a long time! She figures she will redo a fairy garden every year  if her kids are in to it that time...odd for me...I make things and want them to last so I don't have to really do double the work! lol

Haha Tamara Goldstein, you made me laugh, ty for that. Some people take their gnome and or fairy house very seriously. Its the child inside us coming out into our gardens. Its always good to be young at heart, and this is one way to have adult fun. Plus you have to admit it adds 'interest' to the garden.
