    Consider building raised gardens.

A strong border is the only way i have found to prevent the problem.

I also planted 'monkey grass' to border my front bed- when it gets filled in it will be a superb border.

What do you have as a Border and soil. I used to live in Tennessee. Hated the Red Clay Mud.

  • They need a border of some sort - this is what I did to mine.

    • Thank you so much! These are the easiest things in the world to grow. My gardener did amend the soil heavily before I put them in about 10 years ago. The one on the far right ws a $6.00 Home Depot special, and even being the cheapest "no name" rose, it happens to be the most prolific, and will grow past the raingutters several times throughout the season. I do nothing other than feed them and water them. You can't see it here, but they are mulched really well too. They are facing west and it gets very hot here in summer, 100° + for months on end and it is quite dry here, single digit humidity, which does help as far as bugs and diseases, as I only occasionally get a bout with a few aphids in the spring which is quickly remedied.

For your roses, I would consider relocating them if they do not get full sun. Feed them according to what is customary for your area. And give them enough water, if they need it.

If you can, post a photo and we can figure it out together!
