Be careful what you choose. For example, we planted two Sissoo trees (Indian Rosewood) in our backyard in the southeast valley, normal subdivision. They grew quickly and provided great shade. Unfortunately I had to pay to have them removed due to their invasive nature. Messed up my cement patio slab, ran through my small lawn and wound up having to rebuild part of an outside block wall by my HOA. Research, research, research. I was sold those trees by a respected landscaping company and a tree nursery. Check the U of A Co-op desert adaptive tree list. Search for problems with the different trees you like.

We bought a model home that the builder had landscaped. Turns out the African Sumac that THEY planted are no longer allowed. Pain in the neck, among other things. Research twice, plant once.
