What can I plant on a pretty sharp slope to stop erosion?

We just moved to Huntsville, TX and I don’t know what kind of ground cover plant to use that can survive the heat and sun and the strange red dirt! We had to build up the land for a garage foundation and the rain is already eroding it! Anybody have a good idea to share?

There are several varieties of ajuga or bugleweed that work well for me here in Alabama. It is in the mint family but doesn’t go as crazy as mint. If you put a border around it you can contain it better. I have grown it in sunny and shady spot. Look it up and see what you think. Also, I like sedums bec they are pretty and not to hard to grow. Both of the plants are ground covers. If you’re looking for something larger than that, l would consider a juniper. Hope this is a little helpful.

I live in Texas too, and we have crab grass that we can't kill and can't get rid of unless we dig it up with roots and all. Makes a good ground cover, though, and would be perfect on a slope.

Check on line for information as to what you require and you will note the plants that will thrive in your planting Zone. Anything you plant will require a lot of water until it is fully established. You could maybe rig up a soaker hose for that area starting at the top of the slope and running it across.
