Dwarf mondo grass is a no mow grass and it looks great between stepping stones
I love Creeping Thyme. It is low growing and holds up well to foot traffic once established.
It depends on how much or how little sunlight you have. Pachysandra and vinca are good in shady locations and do ok in strong sun. Avoid ajuga at all costs. It will run rampant and take over the entire yard.
I love prunella and blue star creeper-- my experience with vinca has been it is very invasive and hard to get rid of. In low sun areas you can also use Irish moss and baby tears.
