What kind of bird is this?

How this very small bird got in my house, bathroom more specific, I haven't a clue. Every time I caught it, it would wiggle out of my hand before I could get it back outside to let it go. I've looked on some websites to identify it but to no avail. I don't recall seeing this one on our property before but will put out food if I know what to put out.

Go to the library and check out a bird book; preferably with birds from where you live.

I have Hummingbirds & it isn't a hummingbird. When I turnef it loose, it flew away as any other birds we have here.

If it is coming in your house by the bathroom. Check your exaust fancover outside. And any holes around the roof and flashing. I live in Kentucky and we call that bird a young Sparrow. If you have a hole anywhere in your house 1 inch or larger they will build a nest there. Especially in the winter when heat rises.

Thank You Rosemary Kelly. That's what it looked like, a little Wren. I will check my bird feed as well as what the Wren's main diet consists of & make sure they have good available thru the winter. I love birds, can you tell??

Sparrow is the first thing I thought, but it's a Wren.

Pretty sure it's a wren. It's definitely not a hummingbird. They eat bugs so don't worry about feeding it. If you have plenty of flowers to attract bugs there will be natural food. If you have bird houses, it might use one of those but it has to have the tiny hole or a bigger bird will take it over.

Thank you Cynthia for your information. I do have plants & flowers & normally plenty of bugs & insects around. I hadn't thought about bird houses, but I have qúite a few I've used in other decor I can put out that do have very small doors. I didn't think there would be any birds around that might actually use them. Now I have reason to put them outside.

I also believe it's a wren. An owl has a short hooked beak and sits upright. A flamingo is pink. Not a sparrow due to it's speckled chest.

Aawweeee. Thank you for the picture. Definitely going to be putting some bird houses out for them now that I know the little wrens are here.

We have these in Missouri they are wrens

  • Gail Gail on Jan 17, 2018

I was outside doing few things & tossing out sime parrot seed castings for poultry & other birds & was watching all around me for wrens. I actually saw some. Maybe they've been here a while & being so small I just didn't notice them. Anyway, they are welcome to stay & I'll gladly put out houses for them.

MANY THANKS to ALL if you who have responded & helped to educate me about this little bird I now welcome to our place !!!
