Hi Tonya, I went to Walmart and bought the little feeder fish, I don't know if Walmart sells them any more, but any pet store will have them. They grew so big and so beautiful they are a beautiful gold fish .Years later I still have them. I bring them in for the winter and put them in a large tank. They are happy and so am I. Cheers!!!!!

Koi..but stay away from white ones. The raccoons can easily see them at night and enjoy feasting on them.

I would add in a pleco, they are an algae eater and really take no care, they are actually hard to kill, but will help keep the algae down in the pond. We have a local private pet store that takes the big ones in trade for a baby one and then sells the huge ones to people with koi ponds. You will probably want to start with one that is not the little baby, but good sized. If you lived closer to me I would have given you one of mine, as right now I have huge ones in my 75 and 90 gallon tanks. If you have fish tanks in your house you could even raise your own, just get two common plecos and watch them grow in the tank until they reach a size that you know will be able to survive in the pond, probably four to six inches. They get to very large size( anywhere from 12 to 18 inches or more in less time than you think.

We have regular goldfish and they do grow with the pond, however, give them plenty of places to hide such as plants and overhanging rock. We lost quite a few to the local great blue heron one day:/

We put gold fish in ours - however, at night the raccoons had a feast! Our pond wasn't real big, at night we covered it with netting. That worked!
