What plants will help enrich my soil for next year's veggie garden?

Last summer my tiny garden didn't produce so well so I am thinking about taking a summer off from planting my usual "salad garden" (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers). It's in the front yard so I would like to plant something attractive, but also low maintenance and good for the soil.

If you plants did not do well, you are lacking nutrients in the soil.Add garden soil in to the exsisitng soil before planting. If you are doing annuals, they must be in the ground at tleast a few weeks before any fertilizer is given. As for low maintenance annuals, for sun....Coleous,wave petunia, geranium, calicopra,Cuphera,Lantana, are just a few off the top of my head.Remember annuals still need maintenance to produce flowers through the growing season.

Soil sample. Test soil sample. Otherwise you are just flailing around in the dark. Hardware stores sell test kits but a better choice is to search Google for soil testing laboratories in your area.
