What’s the best type of ground cover, such as rock stone or otherwis

We have lots of trees that lose their leafs in the fall, our dogs destroyed the grass, so we thought if we layed rock or stone down, it would be easier to clean up after them, and blow the leaves off in the fall. We get lots of rain year round, and snow 5 months out of the year. I would also like to make some low to the ground planter boxes, and plant grass in them to aid in the dogs digestion. Currently we have dirt, trees, and slab pavers.

Crushed gravel or "river pebbles" will work, as trees need water and some air to permeate to their roots. I found it much easier to blow leaves off in the fall here in Meeeeshigan.

We did our yard in different sized limestone, we left some grass, and our dog goes to the bathroom on the washed rock beside the house. We have patheways with slate stepping stones, and various shrubs and tree throughout

With dogs, I would not put any kind of stone or gravel down. The small ones can get stuck in their peds and get sore and infected. Unless you went with fake grass, that's the price your yard pays for having the love of dogs. Here's a website that has fake grass designed for dogs. Bonus is you never have to cut it!

As for the leaves, get a good leaf blower.

Oh, and grass isn't good for dogs to eat. My dog had been trying to eat grass when she started to bloat. We ran her to the vet and they said it was good that we stopped her. Dogs don't digest grass, it either stays in the bottom of their stomach or they throw it up or poop it out. It just irritates the stomach. (She's fine, by the way).

Try using some rubber mulch. We've done all of our borders and around trees with rubber edging and rubber mulch. The leaves just blow right off of it. The mulch doesn't go anywhere. It's expensive but for what we spend in wood mulch every year, it's worth it in the long run.
