I grow leaf lettuce even with the heat we have had that is almost four months old because I assume the less light it gets where I have them allowed them to not bolt. I have a huge early girl tomato, lettuce, green peppers, basil, rosemary, Italian parsley, oregano, chives and strawberries growing in an area that gets about four hours of sun between the morning, afternoon and evening sun. I also have hibiscus and tuberous begonias in the same area. My peppers and tomatoes are a little smaller than the normal sized fruits, but I attribute that to the heat and also the fact that they really had minimal sunlight compared to if I had them planted in my garden and not in pots. Herbs should do well, many veggies may surprise you also, like with mine, the fruits may be a little smaller or the harvest a little less, but they should produce for you. My leaf lettuce has had so many leaves harvested that each plant is now about three feet high and just started to bolt.

Sunshine is the root of all vegetables...they need bright sun to bloom and produce ...you can grow lettuce , weeds, and ferns in low sunlight,, but not much else.

Petunias do well in shade. So do Hostas. But as far as vegetables, lettuse and maybe peppers will grow but most other vegetables need full sun. Herbs might do OK. I wish I had better news for you.
