What type of walk is better, concrete or pavers?

We have a home with an old concrete sidewalk on three sides, the exception being the garage/driveway. The previous owner liked to use salt based ice melt. Thus, it is time to replace much of the old walk. The question is, should I remove the damaged concrete and replace with pavers or pour new concrete over the sidewalk. The foundation of the old sidewalk is in good shape. Not all of the old walk will be removed or poured over with new concrete, just the damaged areas or about half of the existing walk. My concerns are price, longevity, new concrete bonding to the old concrete, etc.

My vote is concret. We have a paver sidewalk and I hate it. To much maintenance.

Pavers look great but they do seem to be more upkeep.

Concrete one and done for a while

You won't be able to beat concrete with regard to price. Bonding should be taken care of with a good acid wash before you start. My concern with "just the damaged areas" is that you could have a visible difference in color and texture once the concrete dries. The solution for that, would be to either raise the whole walk with the new concrete (covering the old) or cut the existing walk so that the new pour doesn't look funky. You're probably going to need to lay expansion boards across it, anyway -- so either way will work.

We had concrete work done to replace our walkway and a great option is to have contractor "stamp" and stain- gives it a nice color and texture. Our front stoop needed to be repaired and rather than replace, they were able to resurface and match the walkway. Your contractor may be able to resurface vs tear out and replace ???

Concrete and you can stamp texture into the surface
