Where do I begin to spruce up my backyard on a budget?

We rarely spend time in our backyard but we have a pool and small patio. I would still like to make it look homey and inviting and maybe we would spend more time out back. No one likes to use the pool any more and in Az in the afternoon it is pretty hot in the summer you need to be in the pool if you are out back. I have 6 nice patio chairs but no table as it cracked a few years ago from being in the sun too long.

Choose a theme and color palate that you like. You can paint the patio or paint a 'rug' on it. To fashion the cheapest table ever, get some 1 inch PVC and make a cube. Screw on a plywood top and cover it with fabric you can change, or something sturdier like stick on vinyl tiles. Make some wind chimes with terra cotta pots or even old cutlery, and also string some lights. A mister might be nice, too, for the heat. For an even homier feel, make some big throw pillows in your color palate. Photo might help even more if you need a privacy area.
