Why is it so hard to find someone who can do landscape stone work?

Let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages, (yes, I still use them), or Google. You need a Stonemason, landscape designer (who will have a list of qualified contractors), or a landscape contractor. I Google just about everything. Here is how to hire a licensed professional.

Have you run a ad in your local penny saver?
Hi Mike, have your tried asking your friends and family on Facebook. I've sent out several random ISO's over the years and found some great handymen that way.
Try Angie's List and Homeadvisors for landscape contractors. Each one will list the type of work they do so you can check if they do the kind of building of retaining walls/flower beds or rebuilding them that you need. In 4-season climes, a lot of landscape contractors are already booked solid for summer - the good ones are usually the busiest and most booked. If you contact one or more and they cant help you within your time frame, ask if they can recommend somebody else who might be able to do the job. It pays to get several estimates, too.
Does your local high school have a “works” program? Ask at church or your local hardware store. Town garden club? Vets group. The network is out there. You just have to know where to look.
Hi Mike,
Naomie & Jlnatty have give you some great places to look. Here's another one that I like.
A really good place to find a local, good, contractor is to join NextDoor.com It's a website where the match you with others in your neighborhood so that you can exchange ideas. When I joined, I waited a week or so to see what kind of things people were posting. I was excited as people started asking for a good plumber or carpenter. I had been looking for a handyman for over a year and they either said they'd come and didn't or they came and never called back with a price. I tried HomeAdvisor.com but the person who took my call didn't want to "drive that far". We live in what's called the Southtowns, he lived about a 20 min drive away but for some reason people think the "Southtowns" if as far away as the moon. LOL Anyway, I asked at NextDoor.com for a handyman in the morning. I had someone suggest one he had used within an hour. I called the handyman, he called me back that night, came the next day to price the job and, due to a cancellation, came back the next day to actually do the job! Done from first contact to finished in 2 1/2 days! Wishing you the best.
