Quick and Easy Garden Marker Ideas

I'm craft-challenged. I have two left thumbs when it comes to making crafts. That's why I came up with these quick, easy and cheap methods of making garden and plant markers. Use what you have to make these original plant markers.
Plant markers are a tried-and-true method of identifying seedlings and plants in the garden. Many seedlings look identical in their early stages of growth, and it can be difficult to tell them apart. In the garden, plant markers can identify things out of bloom or where you've planted hidden gems like tulip bulbs.
I don't know about you, but I have more rocks than I can handle in my garden. I chose the nicest rocks - those with a flat side - and spray painted them gold. The bright, glittery paint glows when the sunlight hits it, making these both functional and decorative. Next, I used craft paint to paint the plant name on the rock. A quick spray with clear craft sealant keeps them looking nice for many seasons to come.
The plant labels in these seed trays look like commercial plastic strips, but I made these from an old cake frosting can. Take a plastic cake frosting can and clean it with soap and water. Remove the label. Carefully cut off the bottom, then snip the sides into half inch to quarter inch strips as shown. Place a piece of adhesive tape over the label. I like to use a clear tape with an opaque side to it as it seems to hold the print better. Next, use a waterproof magic marker to write the name on the tape. At the end of the growing season, you can just peel off the tape and the name comes off, making the markers completely reusable.
You can make any signs or markers you need from recycled materials. My cat, Groucho, is showing you the farm sign that I made from a discarded walkway slate. I stenciled on an oak leaf and acorn, painted on the farm name, and sprayed it with clear finishing spray to keep it looking fresh and protect it from the elements. My husband mounted it on a post and we sank it into a small circular flower bed. It's fun to find creative ways to make garden, plant and farm signs from what you have around the yard!
