Hi there, Hometalk Friends! Have you been busy sprucing up your outdoor space? Well, today I have a simple repurposed planter project you can create to show off your spring and summer blooms...
When I scored this vintage mailbox at an estate sale last fall, it reminded me of the one from my childhood home, and I knew I wanted to repurpose it as a planter. Need a mailbox? Find it here!
To make your own, start by giving it a coat of spray paint. I used Rust-Oleum Chalked spray paint in Linen White. I had just enough left over from a previous project. Need spray chalk paint? Look here!
Next, I used two heavy duty magnetic hooks in the bracket slots to hang it on my metal door. Use vinyl letters or a stencil to add a greeting on the inside of the lid. You can see my greeting was an afterthought after adding my flowers and herbs, but I'd recommend doing it before.
Now you're ready to add your flowers and/or greenery. I used Lady Banks roses and fresh thyme from the garden, but you can add fresh or faux, whichever you prefer. I hung my planter on my front door, but I may eventually hang it on the garden gate. For the Memorial Day holiday, you could add a few mini flags, too!
Happy planting!
