Making a secret miniature garden with school children, grand children or friends in the home makes an adventurous afternoon. Come see the fun and play in our secret garden. There are many surprises and a video at the end to complete it.
You will need a container like a shallow card board box or disposable cooking pan for the garden container. Then it is fun to go shopping in the craft department or find items for the garden in the neighborhood: rocks, sticks, moss, and anything you find in nature for your secret garden. Here are some of the supplies we gathered.
We covered some water bottles and soda bottles with air dry clay. You can paint the clay, but we used colored clay for details on the cottages in the village. We also used acrylic paint on some of the Styrofoam for a wall.
We decided our garden needed a pond and some fish. Miniature lures with the hooks snipped off made great looking fish! Next add all the moss and ferns or whatever you need in your secret garden.
It was fun and easy and a positive way to teach children to work on building and creating as a group. The roof on the taller villa was made to resemble a mushroom, also. Miniature details found in the craft section were not denied by Grandma!
Here's a close up video to enjoy the details. Did you see the fish and the mushrooms? The pond was clear glue with a blue cardboard under the stones. Even the little fairy has wings on her back.
