Materials

  • River Rocks
  • Acrylic Craft Paint - yellow, blue and pink
  • 1 inch paint brush
  • Slanted paint brush
  • Pointed tip paint brush (optional)
  • Krylon Clear Glaze
  • newspaper
Instructions
  1. Lay newspaper down to protect your work surface. Using the 1 inch paint brush, paint the entire rock. Paint one yellow, another blue, and another pink.
  2. Allow each side to dry completely before painting the other side.
  3. You may have to do 2-3 coats per rock.
  4. Once your rocks have a solid color and are completely dry, start painting the flower. Using the slanted paint brush, lightly dip it into the paint and make a dot on the rock, about ½ inch from the edge. Swirl the brush around into a circle. Repeat this until you have 3 circle shapes on the rock.
  5. Clean your brush, and dip it into the third color. With the longer edge of the brush, touch the rock at the base of the circle, and press down to make the petals.
  6. Alternatively, you can freehand the petals with the pointed tip brush, or you can use it to fill in any areas that need it.
  7. Allow to dry completely.
  8. Spray each rock with Krylon Clear Glaze to provide a protective glaze. Allow to dry.

I paint 24 rocks every year at this time of year and on Sept 30 I put them out around my city. My son, Jordan, got killed in a head-on collision on Sept 30th 2014 at the age of 24. It helps me allow his memory to live on. Thank you for sharing these beautiful rocks.
