Thrift Store Planters

I love making something new out of something old. Sometimes items require a major overhaul, like my favorite patchwork chair, but other times, they are perfect just the way they are. For example, the tea cups and sponge holder I found recently made fun, unique planters and all they needed was a plant.
I picked this cute frog up at the thrift store. It was love at first sight. While he is really a scouring pad holder, I thought he would made a super charming addition to my cottage style garden.

He just needed a little greenery. The tea cup was the same. It was too pretty to pass up, but I didn't need another cup...but a planter, well, that I could use.

Whether I was working on the frog or the tea cup, the process was basically the same.
In the tea cup, I added a few rocks for drainage, a couple of spoonfuls of potting soil and a plant of my choice. I actually used plants from yard. Free is best. icon
For the scouring pad holder, I placed my plants in a small clay pot and then tucked that inside the frog's mouth. I could've planted directly inside, but there's not a big lip on the mouth and I didn't want the dirt to spill out the first time I watered it.
They turned out so cute, they actually both reside inside. To see the full process, and check out where to pick up some other cute scouring pad friends, visit my site! While you're there be sure to sign up for my free email list so you never miss a creative post .
