Gardens full of flowers are a joy to behold. Sometimes it is nice to have some art pieces in with the flowers to add some interest when they finish blooming, or before the blooms appear. So, with that in mind, I wanted to do something with these doves. They were our bridal cake topper when we got married.
The piece is plastic, with a lot of yellowing from age. I started by removing the pink gauzy bow and the side wires.
Using a metallic paint in a bronze color, I spray painted the piece using several coats.
I let each coat dry for an hour, and turned the piece on its side for a couple of coats to be sure all the surface area was covered. See more of the details on painting on my blog post Yard Art Project.
Now it looks like a metal art piece! Nestled into the penstemon greenery, it really begins to look like a heavy bronze statue.
Fabulous tucked into flowers, or as a garden focal point for the transition to fall.
Placed in the dianthus pinks, the contrast in light flower and dark doves create a focal point for visitors to notice. Yard art by recycling something from the past with wonderful memories is special.  Now when I see that piece in the garden, it reminds me of the number of years we have been together, making dreams come true.  No longer hidden away in a cedar chest, now it can be enjoyed all through the seasons.
