My doorbell (the old fashioned kind) has stopped working.

When pressed you just hear a "clunk" inside. Can I fix this myself?

Probably, not sure what you mean by "old fashioned". Because you hear a "clunk" sound, your doorbell button and power supply are most likely OK, so it's in the housing itself. I would pull the cover off of the doorbell and take a look. Something is muffling the chime or restricting the solenoid from moving freely. You may need to simply clean it and/or use some silicone spray so the striker can move freely.

You can buy a wireless one from your hardware store. :D

Two "old" fashion door bells. One has a bell with an arm that hits the bell. The other one has a solenoid inside that strikes a floating bar. I assume you have the second one with a floating bar. The clunk you hear is the solenoid hitting the bar. The bar is suspended on two pins with rubber grommets. I think the rubber grommets just deteriorated over time and the bar is just sitting on the pins and you only hear a clunk. Think of the bars on a Xylophone. They float to create the sound when struck. For a temporary fix you can try to stretch a rubber band across the two pins and lay the bar on top or replace the doorbell.
