DIY Garden Mushrooms Using Thrift Store Glassware
Grab a few glass bowls, jars, old vases, colorful glass gems, and dollar store solar-powered lights to make these sparkly mushrooms for your garden!
This is a fun summer craft for adults as well as teens.
Let me show you how to make these beautiful glass mushrooms for your garden. Follow along for the details and check out the how-to video below.
First, gather up glassware like round bowls for the top of your mushrooms and taller glass items for the base, like vases or glass mason jars.
You may have some of these items already, if not try Dollar Tree, thrift stores, or yard sales. These are all good places to find inexpensive glassware.
I found most of mine at my local Fleatique and they were only a couple dollars each.
How to Make DIY Garden Mushrooms
Now for the fun part. Spray paint your mushroom tops with frosted spray paint made for glass. This is an optional step but I love the added pop of color.
I spray painted the inside of the bowls so the paint wouldn't wear away in outdoor conditions.

Next, you'll need colorful glass gems with a flat side to them.
And, GE500 Silicone 2 Adhesive - Window and Door Caulk to glue everything. It’s waterproof, dries clear and it's good for outdoor projects.
By the way, I got this tip from the Empress of Dirt. If you'd like more info on this adhesive visit: https://empressofdirt.net/adhesive-garden-art-projects/
Glue your glass gems in any pattern you like. Anything goes here so be creative and put your own spin on it!
Last, glue the top of a Dollar Tree solar light to the top of your base (which was the bottom of the vase above for mine). Then glue the mushroom top to the solar light. See the video below for more detail.
If you have a clear vase or jar, another option would be to fill it with glass gems and sit your solar light inside.
Put your mushrooms in a part of the yard that gets sun during the day so they can charge up!
Here's a photo with the solar lights at dusk.

If you wanted to decorate your yard at Christmas time like a gingerbread/candy house, I think these 'mushrooms lights' would be a delightful addition.
