DIY-solar Light Stand

I finally found a use for a drink cup. A mold for a solar light stand. I have hard ground. Not just hard-more like concrete hard in many areas so sticking in a $1 plastic solar light stick is not going to work. So I had to come up with another way to put in some ambient lighting along my pond and throughout the back yard.
I love the way this looks like a miniature lighthouse and it does not stand out amongst the rocks at the edge of the fountain.

What can you do with a 32 oz drink cup?

cut the bottom off

And fill it with hypertufa or other cement mix and then you have to carefully flip it back over. This is the hard part but the hardest part is sticking the solar post in all the way and setting a heavy object (I used a small hypertufa pot upside down to straddle the small post)

On the far right is the drink cup-cured til the next day and then cut the cup off. I sprayed the cup but the plastic cup still wanted to stick.

this is where it sits on the edge of the pond where i cannot stick any lights in the hard ground-going to make a couple more now that I know the project is a success

Love the outcome! If you cut the bottom off first, why don't you just fill it upside down ? Dye the cement to fit in better with the surrounding foilage?

  At the time I wanted to do a mossy treatment that is why I leave the bare concrete. and cutting off the bottom is an idea to try next time but my first attempt was spur of the moment. thanks for checking it out
