How to Hang Outdoor String Lights for a Magical Glow!

Want the magical glow of string lights on your deck, patio, or garden but don't have two walls to hold them up? No worries, here's how to easily hang them on the cheap, even if you don't have a pergola or opposing walls!
Globe string lights instantly elevate a space and make you feel like you're on vacation in your own home. The best part is you don't have to visit a resort to get this glow, you can easily add them to your home even without a pergola or wall!
First, you'll need a 8 foot 2X2 pole. Attach a cap hook to one end of it.
Then, screw the pole into the railing at two levels-- once at the bottom, and one at the top of the railing as shown. Note that you may need to use a shim for the bottom screw if the width of the railing is uneven, that will keep your pole perfectly straight. No railing? Simply put the pole into a large planter and anchor it well and fill with heavy rocks, or use a concrete form and sink it into the concrete.
Next, string your lights! We used cup hooks attached to the wall and looped them around the hooks to make them stay in place.
VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure to secure the light strands to each other or else the plugs may pull apart if there's too much tension.
Now, paint your pole if desired! We used a solid stain to match the deck.
Ahhhhhhh.... vacation at home! The lights give off such a lovely glow, I can't believe this entire project only cost $35! Be sure to read the blog post for a source list and important hints and tips before you begin.

Love the light hanging idea. Where can I purchase the outdoor furniture in your photo?
