Modern Concrete Outdoor Solar Light Hack

Outdoor lighting really makes a nighttime landscape shine.....Oooh ok, that's a bad pun but still, it's true.

Having layers and levels of light shaping the darkness gives a dynamic look and personally, I think it's worth the effort.

With a few supplies, you can up the ante on an inexpensive solar path light. You just need a mold, some concrete, and a few supplies.

For this project, I used a dollar store storage container as a mold, spray release, a piece of cedar, some concrete mix, a clear glass votive, a piece of twine, some amazing glue, and of course the solar light.

Get yourself set up with your mold sprayed with release, add your piece of wood, and mix up the concrete.

Pour the concrete into the form, weigh the wood if necessary, and smush in your hanging mechanism (here I used twine). Now just let it set!

Pop it out and voila! Almost done!

Take apart that solar light by removing the stake and twisting off the plastic reflector part then attach the light inside the votive. You can use glue but should probably use something like an outdoor double-stick tape since these lights are not built to last, shall we say.

Then just glue the votive to the wood and you're all set! So quick! So easy! So stylish and modern!

Sealing up the concrete is optional here but ideal since it'll be outside in all sorts of nutty weather. There's a recipe for a DIY sealer in the blog post.
