If you live in a typical suburban neighborhood then chances are you have a backyard. If you live in Arizona you probably have a pool with our scorching hot summer it's very common the heat can play havoc on your outdoor furniture. It is not uncommon to have to maintain and refresh it each year. So I'm going to show you a few simple ways to update those drab backyard items to something fabulous.
This is my before picture of my whicker chairs that had seen better days and a fire pit for our cooler winter days.
I began by making sure all the items where clean. Then I just used spray paint. When painting things that are going to be used at high temperatures or used with fire there are special paint brands you need to purchase at your local hardware store. I used a black on the outside and inside of this screen. Next I'll do the base and legs to finish up and my chairs as well with paint specifically for whicker.
You can see what a big difference just adding paint to the chairs and fire pit how much fresher and cleaner it looked. I wanted to give my backyard a fun summer look so I also added a few items I made.
All painted now adding décor
I added these two items I had made from wood the welcome is just old fence boards I cut. I handmade some stencils and used my stencils to paint on welcome vertically on the fence boards. I made this fun flip flop out of some wood I had purchased in the scrap section of my local hardware store, for only $5. I just used the 3 boards and nailed a 1x1 cross bar on the back at the top, middle and bottom to secure all the boards. I then drew the shape with a marker and cut it out with a jig saw. I did the same thing to make the flower and straps and nailed them all in place. It was a fun summer look that I wanted for my porch, but decided I'd use them in my backyard make over.
You can see I added this bar that I also built out of fence boards. It will be used to store some beach towels and drinks.
This is my summer ready backyard. I cant wait to have some friends over for some pool fun and drinks!
