Paint patio cover

Our patio cover was an old HOT brown. We painted it sky blue, my Uncles suggestion from the south. He said it keeps away wasps from building nests and it has a cooling feeling. (Great for us in the hot desert of Nevada) Also added a nice white fan in place of the ugly fans that it had.

What kind of wood is the ceiling made of? Mine is osb board unfinished and unpainted. I like the idea of the lighter color, because I have wasps, too!

I'm originally from New England and yes homeowners paint their porch ceilings pale blue for the same tale. Will be doing this in Florida now. :) Thanks for sharing your terrific painting experience.

In the south ceilings were often painted light blue to keep the 'haints' (ghosts) away. It is said that the haints won't cross over a porch with a blue ceiling because they think it's water. There is even a particular color called Haint Blue.. We are in the house building process and I already specified a blue porch ceiling on both porches. May as well keep up the tradition.
