Fight Mosquitos With Sand

After an unusually wet spring, the mosquito population here in southeast Alabama exploded! To my horror, I discovered mosquito larvae swimming in the saucers under my porch plants!

After consulting with other Hometalkers, I decided to replace the pea gravel in the saucers with sand so moisture will evaporate faster. I also plan to use ice cubes sometimes to avoid going overboard.
I was using different sizes of pea gravel.
My dog Oreo enjoys rolling around in all the sand we have around here.
I scooped some of the sand into a saucer.

I filled all the saucers with sand. Summer will be much nicer now for all of us without so many pesky mosquitos! Thanks Hometalk!

I forgot that someone also suggested dusting Sevin dust in the saucers. Something is working because I don't have as many mosquitos on my porch!
