Hi Dawn, here's a wiki with several options: https://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Carpenter-Bees
I've definitely heard about citrus repelling just about all bugs. Instead of using real fruit you could just buy orange essential oil and make a solution with water that you can spray on the beams to soak them. Good luck!
They are very sensitive to smell. You can spray WD-40, but that can get very expensive. We use termite control Hi-Yield 38Plus, mixed to termite ratio, in a garden sprayer. Spray the area well and they will stop drilling in your wood. We do it twice a year and has been very effective for us.

I would make carpenter bee traps and hang up there from hooks.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RHtEOQj4yo&t=103s you can make a long pole with a hook to hoist them up there once you install the hooks.
