Mitzy: I don't like the chemicals... but this works... bomb the house. You can always wash blankets, dishes, etc after the bombing. --- I've found it's a multi-level approach... vacuum --- then throw out bag. (if bagless, put a little spritz of flea spray into canister)

Use Frontline or Nexgard for your pets! ...then give them a flea bath EVERY week -- in between the times of using the vet prescription.

Doing this was a lot of work... but the magic answer for my house.

  • When you vacuum, are you emptying the canister or changing the bag? If not, all you are doing is spreading them around. Did you ever call your vet? Google? Call fleabusters? Here are some things for you to try. First you treat you pet and quarantine in a non infected area. Then you get busy on the house and yard.

Some areas of the country are more prone to flea and tick infestation than others. One needs to be mindful where your dog plays and where you take on walks and check your pets daily for any signs of fleas. I have 11 pets, it's a job in itself.

Make sure you've completely cut off the supply first. Unfortunately, home remedies don't work very well for getting rid of fleas on your pet, in my experience. A topical treatment or pill is a good idea--check with your vet for recommendations. Then, the life cycle of fleas is such that you need to clean diligently for about a month to get all the flea eggs sitting around your house that will have hatched in between the the last time you cleaned and now. It is doable--you just have to treat your pet and stay on top of it for several weeks. It'll get better!

  • Have you removed the source (pets?)? I would get Frontline or something like that for your pets, then it shouldn't be hard to remove the fleas from the home carpeting. You may need to use one of those flea bombs (just make sure all pets and humans ;) ) aren't home while you do the flea bomb.

Buy Borax (it contains boric acid) and sprinkle it over the carpet. Leave it there for 24 hours, then vacuum it up. Also sprinkle it behind and under your kitchen sink, stove, and oven to repel ants, cockroaches, etc. It dessicates (dries out) their bodies and eggs and keeps on working. Furthermore, it is not toxic to your children and pets. It has worked like a charm when my indoor cats escaped outside. Do not get rid of your furry friends!
