Several years ago I had this problem and read about using cinnamon, now every year before spring I buy fresh cinnamon sticks and put them on the back board of the sinks and also in my cabinets. NO ANTS or Bugs.
They are Pharaoh ants. They really don't do any harm but are REALLY annoying. We've used both diatomaceous earth and boric acid to get rid of them. Just dust wherever they're running.
I've used ground cinnamon around my patio & porch areas which wo to deter them. If you could determine their source that would work for you. Cinnamon beats insecticide & keeps ants from nesting in potted plants too!
