How can I keep animals from digging in my potted plants?

    It is most likely squirrels. Apply blood meal,hot pepper sprays,and put wooden skewers all around the plants.

    My cats used to do this until I got pieces of hardware cloth/chicken wire and cut it to the size of the top of the container. I then buried it under about and inch of the soil. I think gardening stores also sell the plastic stuff too which is lighter weight. Once the cats got their class caught while trying to dig the planters became unappealing.

      Oh, the skunks might not like this but the raccoons might just rip it up unless you can affix it to the planter. In that case I'd use hardware cloth though and not the plastic stuff.

    Shake cayenne pepper all over the plants and soil.

    Crushed red pepper worked for me.
