How can I keep gophers from undermining my brick paver patio?

I have gophers in my yard and they have dug tunnels under a paver walkway causing sections of it to collapse. When I build the new walkway if I put chicken wire down before I put the gravel and sand, with that keep gophers out of that area? Or will they dig tunnels between the chicken wire and the pavers again?

You do have the right idea but just laying the down the chicken wire would still allow space for them to dig under it. I would dig a 12" to 18" narrow trench along the perimeter of the walkway. You can use a long spade shovel to cut a groove along the edge of the walkway. Slip the chicken wire vertically into the trench. They try to dig and hit the chicken wire trying get get under the pavers unless they dig down below the 12" to 18".

Use Gopher Purge, purchase a couple plants & plant them in your flower bed; dig out the hills created by the gophers so you can see the tunnel, insert 1 or 2 leaves off the base of the Gopher Purge plant [depends on the size of the leaf] into the tunnel & cover it over. Repeat this process for EVERY hill you find; watch over the next few days for new activity. IF you see new hills...repeat the process; they will soon leave the area. NOTE: PLEASE wear gloves when handling this plant; some people are allergic to it & may have a reaction such a hives or closing of their throat. It DOES work...I experimented until I found out 'HOW IT WORKS"
