How can i prevent new growth at the base of a crepe myrtle ?

What kind of new growth? If it sprouts suckers, you just pinch them off. "Preventing" will kill the tree . . .

  So welcome! I planted another Crepe Mytle last October, and I have a number of other trees that do the same thing. It is natures way of reproducing. Call an arborist for an evaluation and suggestions.

Try Boiling hot water and Vinegar mixed together. Large amount..1/2.Bucket water and 1/2 bucket Vinegar....Boil Together. Half and Half mixture for use on weeds or things that grow.
