Also make sure that you look around the house and see if you can determine which area they are staying in and there is something in that area that is growing them, feeding them, or attracting them. Some culprits are rotting food (Banana and Apples), Soil in Plants, Drains in sinks, vent under fridge. Clorox any areas that may be culprits (* Add fresh soil to plants or tiny bit of dry mulch).

And a dumb thing that actually works is to spray them with Dow Scrubbing Bubbles. Something in that spray makes them drop out of the air and you simply wipe them up.....

Get several small glasses, fill with a little wine, cover with plastic wrap, and secure with elastic bands. Poke very small holes in the wrap, and place them scattered around the kitchen. Now be patient and wait, they'll smell the wine, go in and can't get out, and then they die. Give it about, 3 to 4 days.

A little dish detergent (keeps them from crawling out) & wineor sugar (sweet from wine attracts them) into a small bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and make small holes. Make a few of these and put tbem in several places. You will be amazed at how fast these little critters crawl in. Always check for rotten potatoes, bananas & other fruits. They're the cause of fruitflies. Good luck!

Fill a microwave-safe bowl with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Microwave the bowl so the mixture becomes even more aromatic. Leave the bowl out uncovered as fruit fly bait. The soap will reduce the surface tension, causing any fruit fly that lands on the surface to drown. Now, if what you have might be drain flies...if that is what you have try this: Boil some water on the stove and pour down your drain several times a day for about a week or Mix 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar and then pour the mixture down the drain, leaving it overnight. In the morning, pour boiling hot water down the drain.

If a drain fly infestation lasts longer than 20 days despite different approaches to get rid of them, then it’s time to call a professional exterminator.
