I heard somewhere, if you put a slinky underneath the bird feeder when the squirrels try to climb up the bird feeder, he has to attend to climb up the slinky before he can reach the feeder. If you know how a slinky works you will see it might be hard for the squirrel to get to the seed. ( If you google How to put slinky under a bird feeder I am sure you will get results on how it is put up. Also you might even get to see a video on it.) I saw the video in action and it showed the squirrel trying to climb up it without success. I have not tried this though. I hope this was of some help to you. :).

I just saw That video that Sandra is talking about. I think it is the best deterrent I've seen for squirrels

My father suggests ensuring that anything over the feeds is tippy enough that the squirrel cannot easily stay on it. You might try googling how to keep squirrels out of bird feeders. Good Luck. My father has battled squirrels trying to get seed from the bird feeders for years.

The 8' high feeder is at the top of a beautiful 4" thick light post, set just to the left of a similarly installed large bird house. All limbs have been trimmed from trees to a height of 12', but two strong-minded squirrels continue to jump and dive, successfully landing on the feeder every so often. Do I need to trim higher branches?
