The birds used to build nests on top of my motion lights (one even got a bit singed). A friend told me to put a stuffed toy on top of the light and it did work. I was a bit diligent not to leave the light on for too long though.

my father put cotton with Tabasco and put in the birds nest. The male bird took it out and would rub its beak on the lawn. The female was squawking at him all the time. It did not work but gave my Dad a show😊

When you see them start making the nest just take it down and throw it away they won't be back and they will find somewhere else to build.
