Use round stones, you can buy them at any hardware store, put several inches of them, I used it to keep my own cats out!
I've used cayenne pepper for the squirrels and my dogs (pots and ground). Don't buy the pepper in the spice aisle (not hot enough and too expensive). I bought 45,000 scoville on the internet and it works like a charm!
