I only use safflower seeds for that reason, squirrels don't like them and leave the feeders alone.

    Hello Barbara

Make a baffle— If you are using a pole feeder or shepards hook. I purchased one 30 years ago and made a second one with hardware store supplies for an additional rear yard birdfeeder last year. They work very well!

I have the pricy $$$ Yankee flipper birdfeeder that’s motorized to throw the squirrels off and I know longer have to charge it up — as the baffle does the job 24-7 without any maintenance.

Additionally —if you are hanging your feeder from the tree make -a dome protection these can be commercially purchased or can be made - my son fashioned one cutting down using a huge whey protein bottle or perhaps use a dollar store bowl?

Best wishes with the squirre deflection.

Try putting cayenne in with the seed.

I put some grease on my fence pole the squirrel gets about half way up then slides back down he tries to jump up to grab the pole but slides back down to the ground and then jumping back up to grab it and then slides back down till he lands on the ground and starts it all over again.
